The Information Technology Infrastructure Solutions (ITIS) Department is a Department under the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) that plays a crucial role of the Agency’s realization of its mandate of Information Technology (IT) regulation, development, and advisory services for the Nation. The Department is essentially to address the growing need for robust, innovative, and sustainable IT infrastructure across Nigeria, the ITIS Department plays a strategic role in fostering digital transformation and enabling the nation’s socio-economic development through technology. The department’s core objective is to catalyze IT development by implementing comprehensive infrastructure strategies that align with Nigeria’s national goals, across key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, finance, and governance. These initiatives ensure that Nigeria’s technology ecosystem remains competitive, inclusive, and capable of supporting the country’s ambitions in a globalized economy.
The ITIS Department is structured to fulfill the role of catalyzing the development of sustainable and innovative IT infrastructure in Nigeria. The following are the key functions of the department that aligned with the Agency’s mandate and objectives:
Design, plan, and implement comprehensive IT infrastructure strategies that align with national development goals and sector-specific needs such as Data Centers, internal support systems, and sectoral IT infrastructure for education, healthcare, agriculture, finance, and government;
Create and implement initiatives, support regulations, and policies to enhance local software development capabilities and stimulate demand for Nigerian-made software. This involves supporting the software industry through skills upscalling, innovation grants, and regulatory support.
Design and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the IT hardware sub-sector (including Original Equipment Manufacturing – OEM) by fostering local production, quality control, and demand for domestically produced hardware. The department supports OEMs through capacity development and investment incentives.
Collaborate with the relevant Departments to develop, promote, and implement IT infrastructure-related policies and regulations. This ensures the creation of a conducive environment for technological advancements, including cybersecurity, data privacy, and IT compliance frameworks;
Design, promote and implement initiatives that bridge the IT Infrastructure digital divide in underserved and rural areas to ensure equitable access.
Promote the establishment and support for innovation hubs, tech parks, and incubation centers across Nigeria to foster a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration among IT professionals, startups, and businesses. These hubs serve as ecosystems that accelerate tech solutions for local and international markets;
Collaborate with relevant Deaprtments and stakeholders to lead research efforts to explore emerging technologies such as cloud computing, AI, blockchain, and IoT, and how they can be integrated into national infrastructure development strategies;
Promote the retooling and upskilling of IT professionals, ensuring the development of a highly skilled workforce to support the growth of Nigeria’s IT infrastructure;
Implement systems to monitor the performance, security, and resilience of IT infrastructure across different sectors, ensuring continuity and disaster recovery capabilities;
Promote the implementation of integrated IT Solutions in the Housing and Road Infrastructure across the country;
Foster partnerships with international organizations, private sector players, and educational institutions to promote collaboration in IT infrastructure development;
Promote the implementation of initiatives for IT Security Infrastructure across the country;
Any other function as directed by the Agency
The ITIS organogram is a graphical representation of the internal structure of the Department. It outlines the hierarchy, relationships, and reporting lines between the various roles, and individuals within the Department. It helps the Agency to visualize how ITIS Department is structured and provides clarity on who is responsible for what, as well as how authority and information flow within the Department and the Agency.
