Abubakar A. Dahiru, PhD

Dr. Abubakar A. Dahiru, is the Head of Special Duties Unit of the National Information Technology Development Agency. He Holds a PhD in Computing Information Systems and a Master’s degree in Computing: Software Technology both from the famous Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. His Bachelor’s degree is in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. Dr. Dahiru is an experienced, competent and well-trained researcher in the fields relating to computing, information systems and engineering, with expertise in IT governance, information management and strategic planning. Dr. Dahiru is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the British Computer Society (BCS). He is a passionate advocate of ICT for development (ICT4D).

Dr. Dahiru served in various capacities in the private sector and academia.

His stint at the private sector was in the Telecoms industry with Intercellular Nigeria Plc. working on CDMA wireless telecoms operations. He was engaged as an academic staff at Kaduna Polytechnic and Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (formerly known as Federal University of Technology, Yola), where he engaged in lecturing, administration and other forms of Scholarly and research activities. He also consulted for several development organizations like WHO and MCSP-USAID targeted at expanding access to quality under-utilized interventions and commodities, and in strengthening and integrating health information systems to effectively provide services at scale for improved healthcare outcomes.

Dr. Dahiru has published and presented many papers in reputable and renowned international journals/conferences such as: The Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries; UKAIS Conference on Information Systems, in Oxford University, United Kingdom; IFIP 9.4 European Workshop on Iterative and Incremental Approaches to ICT4D, in Aberdeen, Scotland; IFIP 9.4 12th and 13th International Conferences on Social Implication of Computers in Developing Countries, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Negombo, Sri Lanka respectively; EMCIS conference on Information Systems, in Doha, Qatar and Information Society IEEE conference, in London, UK.
Dr. Dahiru is happily married with children and enjoys swimming (natural waters) and ecotourism.
