NITDA establishes ICT skills centre in Jigawa

In line with Federal Government Agenda to diversify nation’s economy, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has established a Community IT Centre in Hadejia Local Government of Jigawa State.

The project, which was commissioned by the Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, on behalf of Federal Government of Nigeria, is one of NITDA’s Intervention of ICT Centres in the Northwest Zone of Nigeria.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr Isah Ali Pantami said the Hadejia centre is one of the three community Information Technology training centers provided by the National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA across the country.

The minister added that he laid the foundation of the IT centre in 2018 when he was the director general of NITDA and as a result of his predecessor’s commitment the center has been commissioned today.

Pantami further disclosed that the provision of the IT centre is in line with the present administration’s commitment to improving the digital economy which is the fastest growing economy in the world today.

He challenged the state governors to support the federal government in one way or the other to ensure that Nigeria creates wealth through the use of modern Information and Communication Technology.

While making his remarks, the Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar described the initiative as welcome development that will train the youth to become self-reliant individuals.

He also applauded the effort and commitment of the minister of communications and digital economy for his foresight in choosing Hadejia to be one of the only three communities IT centers across the country.

In his welcome address the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi CCIE said that the centre is designed, built and equipped with a digital infrastructure to be used for training the youth in digital capacity to prepare them for the future work in the digital economy. Adding that it is in line with the federal government’s initiative and in fulfillment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign promises to reform the economy.

He said, “Federal Government is heavily investing in skills and training centres so that our youths can use them to leverage IT knowledge.”

“I believe that when you empower youths, the economy gets stronger and create value and prosperity. Therefore, we built and equipped this centre that can accommodate forty participants at a time; each person can have access to the latest computer hardware and software.”

Kashifu added that the IT Centre is in consistence with the ministry of communication’s drive of the national digital economy.

In his acceptance speech the Emir of Hadejia Alhaji Abubakar Maje on behalf of the good people of Hadejia and jigawa state, in general, assured to utilize the center for economic development.

He said the Hadejia Emirate has set up a committee that will take care of the project.

Adamu Abubakar also commended the effort of minister Dr. Isa Ali Pantami and the DG NITDA the son of the soil for their commitments toward actualizing the project.
