Overview

NITDA wishes to formally announce the activities earmarked to mark the global anniversary of the Cybersecurity Awareness and Sensitization Month (aka October Month), which strives to highlight and instill the basic knowledge users require to stay safe as well as how and what to avoid while traversing on cyberspace.

There has been an astronomical rise in the use of digital platforms as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the associated increase in unwholesome practices in cyberspace.

Many Nigerians have fallen victims to cybercriminals due largely to lack of awareness on what to do and avoid, while on cyberspace.  It is on record that exploiting digital platforms for national socio-economic development hinges on Trust, and ineffective cybersecurity coordination could deal a devastating blow on the positives of the Digital Economy.  In ensuring this trust and repositioning businesses for Digital Nigeria, the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, in reeling out strategy and frameworks for its effectiveness, are unprecedented.

It is on this premise that NITDA, in following the directive of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, to parastatals under him, is marking the global month-long event in Nigeria as below:

October month CS campaign

This programme involves a digital conference, highlighting what to avoid and what to do in the event of any cyber breach, incident, threat, and known vulnerabilities, in society.  It uses traditional and social media channels to propagate the Stay Safe message to Nigerians.

Capacity Building on Cybersecurity for Legislative Officers

This builds human capacity in the Legislative Arm, as they strive to harness available technical and general knowledge to foster legislative action against cybercriminals. This includes a conference and technical training.

Cybersecurity Sensitization Summit

This programme targets three strata of cyber users: parents/children, youth and organizations, with focused contents to address the peculiar knowledge needs of each stratum, to stay safe.  It includes the use of radio jingles, talk shows as well as TV presentations.
