The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in its affirmation towards the swift growth and wide spread of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) paid a visit to the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) headquarter in Abuja.
The Chairman Section on Business Law Committee, Kachi Okezie Esq. in his statement congratulated Dr. Ali Isa Ibrahim Pantami on his appointment as the Director General of NITDA, and seeks the collaboration of the Agency in the implementation of Information Technology (IT) in the various sections of the Nigeria Bar association which will gear towards effective and efficient service delivery.
Okezie asserted that the association craves readiness to work with NITDA in the aspect of developing standards, guidelines, regulations, and frame work in the industry towards achieving uniformity in the nation. The association appeal to the agency to establish an IT resource center which will aid towards a transformation of the country into an IT and knowledge driven economy.
The Director General of NITDA Dr. Ali Isa Ibrahim Pantami expressed glee with the visit, and asserted that “my first priority is the regulatory role”. He stated that we need more of practical solutions in the area of capacity building thus will create avenue for job creation and a revenue flow, in line with the diversification of the economy.
In his remarks Pantami, asserted the need for local content patronage, and improvement in the quality of production attain a world class standard which will attract foreign investors.
In a statement, the Head Legal unit of the Agency, Bar. Emmanuel Edet asserted that the collaboration with NBA will aid in the area of outlining certain laws that would yield positive outcome which will make a swift in the growth and development of ICT in the country.
He stated the need for an online forum where it will be open to suggestion and recommendation from the public on the developed or ongoing standards, Guidelines and Regulations which will pave way for achieving a world class standard on IT.
