The Chairman of Africa Information and Communication Technology Alliance (AFRICTA), Dr. Jimson Olufuye led a powerful delegation to the headquarters of the National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA) to reaffirm its support for the development of IT and to discuss areas of possible collaboration towards that objective.

He stated that AFRICTA was established in 2014 as the forerunner of IT development on the continent with six member nations and has now expanded to a twenty seven member nation organization. Part of the organisation’s efforts towards achieving its objectives include empowering start-ups and providing sponsorships to IT events around the world. He further disclosed that AFRICTA sponsored a thousand start –up companies to its last summit.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Agency for its unwavering support to the alliance from inception and hoped the already cordial relationship between the two organizations will be sustained and strengthened.

In his response, the Director General of NITDA, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim while assuring the delegation of his total support for any project aimed at the development of the IT sector, and the interest of the nation, emphasised the importance of international IT conferences and other networking Fora which he said “add value to nation building” He however advised that “the purpose of such trips should be passionately pursued to avoid wastage of funds”

Pantami disclosed that in order for NITDA to fully implement its mandate, restructuring has been going on in the Agency since his assumption of duty to properly position the NITDA so that it can fully perform its regulatory functions.

Dr. Olufuye, while thanking the Management for the warm reception, called for the continuous engagement of NITDA in CSTD, ICANN etc. and urged the DG to grace the upcoming ICANN event later in the year.
